Dying Black Hair Violet?

I'm Asian with black hair and I wanted Dark Violet streaks through it - would I need to tell the salon to bleach it blond or t prevent hair damage, could they just go a medium brown (I'm thinking the violet would turn red in that case)

I also heard that asian hair can go orange when bleached :(

Anyone know of asians who did purples or blue black dyes?

I have done all of my hair a dark violet, without bleaching it. If you go without bleaching it will be very subtle. If you have it bleached the dye will be more vibrant. You should try a test strand with your dye, before you go and have it bleached. And if you are not happy with those results then go to a salon and tell them what you what to do and also your concerns about bleaching your hair. Always talk to the stylist first to see if you like what they plan on doing, I would recommend asking a few different salons to get the best one. When I went to get my hair bleached for the first time, I had to go to a bunch of different salons. Some said that black hair could not be bleached blond without ruining my hair. Well I finally had it done and it was fine. If you go to a good stylist they should be able to bleach your hair and it should not be orange. However I would recommend having a conditioning treatment done right after, this will greatly help your hair. I hope this helps and i am sure it will turn out great.

well, i'm asian but i never got my hair bleached or whatever.

but if you do get your hair violet it will look really cute.

If your asian then i would nor suggest dying your obnoxius like that. It's simply unattractive and it makes people notice you (in a bad way) I suggest if you dye your hair ANYTHING at all then just dye it a light brunette. Blond and Asian doesn't mix.

It probably will go orange (my boyfriends did) You should be able to still get a good purple colour on the bleached sections though.

Once you've bleached sections of your hair, it would be well worth getting a good conditioner to keep your hair from getting too dry.

you should bleach it for the best colour and just so u know you are going to have to die it every couple of weeks

I know lots of asians that have dyed their hair different colors, (girlfriend included).

So, here's some advice:

Bleaching level - since I'm assuming your hair is black, the more you bleach it, the brighter your color can be. Sorry, hair damage is part of getting more vibrant colors.

Now, as far as the difference between purple and violet or red, check your skin tone. If you are paler, then bluer tones might do well with you. If you're more tan/olive, consider a scarlet tone, something a touch more red.

And yes, black hair, (especially thicker hair) will go orange when you bleach it using "weak" bleaches. You might have to even bleach twice if you're using weaker, generic bleach.

More professional bleaches that are applied correctly won't give you this issue.

You might want to consider having a pro do your first streaking, they have slightly stronger chemicals that won't fry your hair as bad, then use Manic Panic or equivalent dyes to do your touch ups.
