Highlighting hair, salon or home?

My teenage daughter has mousy brown hair and would like her hair to be blonder. I want something that we don't have to upkeep every six weeks such as coloring it. Would highlighting be a better choice and if so is doing it at home the same as the salon. I really don't want to spend $100 just to highlight her hair if I can do it just as well at home. Any advice?

Start with the good salon (ask your friends for recommendations), and then follow the highlighted pattern at home when the hair starts growing again.

I'd go to a salon. When you do it at home you don't always end up with the color you originally wanted (this happened to a friend of mine), it's much better to get it professionally done.

Hello,

I would just take her to the salon and she should get it done there or ask them. Good Luck !

salon... not at home.. can become a disaster.... call around and ask if they do %26amp; foils..... these are placed on top of head not all over... alot cheaper... and if to do get highlights... up keep if you go light is about 2 months... unless you go 1 shade lighter... or 1 shade darker...called lowlights.... good luck...7 foils are normally 35 to 40 dollars....alots cheaper than whole head... GOOD LUCK Got a Regis around you? they are great!!!!

Why not do it at home?? I do that and most of my friends do too!! As far as it not turning out right.......you shouldn't have a problem.....you're just going to have to leave the bleach on for longer so it will pull the color........there are a number of ways to do it.....for the first time this is definently the easiest and the lease likely chance that you will mess up there are kits that have a cap that you put over freshly brushed hair........you style it as usual then put the cap on.........it comes with a little rod-like tool with a hook on the end of it.....you put the hook through little circle guides on the cap and pull the hair through......as soon as you've pulled all the hair through the cap.....apply the bleach.....when you're done just wash the bleach out and remove the cap.......one thing to be weary of though is making sure you get the roots without missing spots because she'll end up looking like a cheetah on top!!! I would recommend doing this on day old hair, not freshly washed so that the oils will work to protect the hair....also since bleach is so harsh on the hair, i would leave conditioner on it for about 3-7 min........I can't remember the exact names of the kits that I know, but go to wal-mart or beauty co or sally's and it won't be expensive.......even if you do mess up, it's not the end of the world, but you might have to take her to get it fixed.......GOOD LUCK!!

Definatly salon! It comes out so much better and the colour stays longer! This way it is done by proffesionals!

But if you really dont want to pay that much, you cant really go wrong with bleach. You can buy packets which come along with head caps and tools and an allover head will make hair blonder x
