Dyeing curly hair?

I have short curly hair which was highlighted blond 5 weeks ago. I want to dye it back to my original dark brown. How soon can I do this without seriously damaging or drying out my hair? Or should I just risk it anyways?

Wait another week or 2 before you dye it back just to be safe

You should wait at least 6 week before drying the hair.

Many professional sylists recommend waiting a full six weeks before you do any other chemical type of processing on your hair. Just to be safe, wait at least one more week if you really want to be sure that the least amount of damage will be done.

I am assuming since you said your hair is short and curly that it may also be a little on the dry side because curly hair is quite often just a little bit dry. Make sure to deep condition it once a week and use a light leave-in conditioner every day, even if you don't have to wash your hair daily for the best results. Also, try to stay away from heat elements such as straightners, blow dryers, or irons of any kind. Heat also tends to badly damage hair and to keep your hair in the best possible condition, use the lease amount of heat possible on it and don't be stingy using a good conditioner, and thermal products to protect your hair if you do use heat instruments. That should help strengthen your hair in preparation for dying it back to it's original color.

Believe be, you don't want to take a chance like I did. Quite a few years back, I asked a really close friend of mine that had no experience with highlighting hair if she would lighten my hair once and it turned out disasterous! It 'took' way faster than the instructions said!

Boy, did I ever cry until I was able to get my hair really 'fixed' by my professional stylist. She wondered why I had actually done something so stupid, but I told her I had no idea that it was possible for so horrible to happen to my hair. And I also wound up spending a lot of money for three separate one hour sessions sitting in my professional hair stylist chair so she could undo as much damage as humanly possibly. My stylist actually did do a great job because the strips of my hair that had been highlighted turned out almost totally white which was not anything like what I had wanted! But my stylist really worked hard, told me how to care for my very badly damaged hair, we managed to get my hair back in good shape again, and she got those awful highlights toned down back to my natural color. After about three months of waiting and after a couple of good two inch trims, I could later have my stylist put some really natural soft looking highlights and lowlights that turned out very nice back in my once very badly damaged hair! I was scared I would never be able to put a perm or highlight in my hair again after that one absolutely disastrous experience. So, even though I did that stupid thing one time, I certainly know better now than to allow anyone that is totally inexperienced with dying or highlightening hair to ever touch my hair again! I'm really thankful that my hair did not fall out or break off really badly from the highlight job that turned out to be the worst experience of my life! Can you imagine dark champagne colored blonde hair with white blonde streaks running through it? Oh, it was absolutely awful looking and one of the most goth looking things I have ever seen in my life!!

I would hate to see you really be disappointed with the final results of dying your hair back to it's original color, so it is always better to be safe than to be sorry. I hope your hair turns out looking great! ;)

Some damage is inevitable no matter what, especially with such variations in colour tones! Wait a good 2 weeks more before dying your hair again. And keep indulging your hair in rich conditioners for coloured hair and hot oil treatments at least once a week for the next few months!
